Salt Lake Community College seeks to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber, skilled in the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application, and integration of knowledge. The successful applicant will join a vital and innovative department as its members are reflective practitioners and knowledgeable teachers in their respective fields. The Nursing program offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing, which enables students to apply for and take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is needed to become a Registered Nurse (RN). We also offer an Advanced Placement Program for License Practical/Vocational Nurses (LPN/LVN) returning for an AAS degree.

Under general supervision the instructor will teach various classes in nursing skills to Associate Degree and Practical Nursing students. These programs prepare students to qualify for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) which will qualify graduates as health care providers in their prospective level of preparation. The faculty member may be assigned to any SLCC location. As a requirement of the Division of Nursing the faculty will work in both didactic and clinical settings as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Prepare and supervise nursing students in a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrate distinctive promise as a teacher with the expected pursuit of excellence in teaching.
  • Be willing to use a variety of modern teaching technologies, including the use of computers and multi-media in lectures, laboratories, and distance learning environments.
  • Be willing to learn and use the Electronic Media.
  • Provide leadership and professional contributions to the Department, Division, School and College.
  • Maintain and pursue additional creditable academic degrees and/or certificates in one's chosen field of professional responsibility.
  • Participate in professional or occupational development.
  • Maintain depth of understanding in the chosen field and contribute to current knowledge of the discipline.
  • Maintain positive attitude toward work, students, colleagues and administration.
  • Encourage community service and involvement.
  • Prepare course outlines, daily plans and associated materials
  • Assist in the development of new courses and in the upgrading of current courses and programs, including competency-based education.
  • Assist new and continuing students in an advisement capacity on courses and programs.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and workshops and participate in committee assignments.
  • Assess and maintain records and grades of student performance.
  • Work with concurrently enrolled students and faculty and develop and maintain articulation agreements with local applied technology centers and universities
  • Assist and advise students in professional and student organizations.
  • Work toward the attainment of credible academic degrees in the nursing field.
  • Maintain regular office hours and be available to provide help for students.
  • Attendance at New Faculty Orientation sessions required.

    Accept other duties as assigned.
    Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued
    Minimum Qualifications
    1. Bachelors degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
    2. Currently enrolled in a Masters degree in Nursing program from an accredited college or university.
    3. Three years current nursing practice in a variety of settings.
    4. Four (4) years recent successful full-time paid clinical experience in a healthcare facility or nurse educator experience preferred.
    5. RN currently registered in Utah or eligible for current license in Utah required.
    Preferred Qualifications
    Six (6) years recent successful full-time paid clinical experience in a healthcare facility or nurse educator experience preferred.
    Teaching or extensive clinical experience preferred.
    Masters degree or higher in Nursing preferred.
    Masters degree in Nursing preferred
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    The Faculty in the Division of Nursing is required to maintain professional and collegial relationships with their assigned clinical partners and adhere to all applicable clinical partnership policies and procedures.

    The ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

    The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

    Anticipated Start Date: Fall Semester, August 2023.
    Multiple positions may be filled for the 2023 Fall Semester.
