    Position Announcement

    The Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences (SPECS) in the University of Oregon's (UO) College of Education (COE) is seeking applications for a tenure-line faculty position focused on language and literacy in neurodiverse populations at the assistant professor rank. The successful candidate will have a record or evidence of potential for strong teaching, research, and service.

    The successful candidate's primary instructional duties will be in the Communication Disorders and Sciences undergraduate program teaching courses related to development, literacy and language. We are seeking a colleague with scholarship in neurodiversity and language and literacy supports and strong potential to obtain external funding. We seek a SLP candidate who can conduct research and increase knowledge of methods to empower neurodiverse populations across the lifespan. The successful candidate will have skills to mentor undergraduate and graduate research and develop community research partnerships.

    The COE at the UO is a community of leading researchers and practitioners dedicated to transformational scholarship, integrated teaching, and collaborative practice designed to enhance individual lives and systems within a culture that values diversity and promotes respect and inclusion. The COE is home to 3 academic departments, 14 academic degree programs, 14 research and outreach units, the HEDCO Clinic, and the HEDCO Institute.     The Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences is one of four academic departments in the College of Education. It is comprised of three major programs: Communication Disorders and Sciences (CDS), School Psychology (SPSY), and Special Education (SPED). The Department offers degrees from undergraduate to master's and doctoral, as well as licensure and endorsement programs. The Special Education and Clinical Sciences Department is involved in collaborative efforts among all COE departments and institutes to support research across the College, outreach activities, and core requirements for the master's and doctoral programs.
    The CDS program contains undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. (by time of appointment) in Communications Disorders & Sciences or a closely related field.
  • Record or evidence of potential for strong scholarly productivity.
  • Demonstrated capacity or potential to conduct, administer, and sustain a rigorous program of research.
  • Teaching or mentorship experience relevant to teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Holds ASHA Clinical Certificate of Competence by position start date.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Record or evidence of potential to obtain for external research funding, particularly through federal funding agencies.
  • History of research or clinical scholarship related to language and literacy development in neurodiverse populations.
  • Record of or strong potential for mentorship and/or supervision of student research and clinical work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially in department, college, university, and community.
  • Ability or potential to engage in interdisciplinary research.
