Position overview
Position title: Head and Neck Surgical Oncologist
Salary range: The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and/or step. The base pay range for this position is $290,000 - $350,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan. Position description

The University of California, San Diego, Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery (https://oto.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and seeks to recruit a Head and Neck Surgical Oncologist for a joint position at UCSD and VA.

The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
  • Serving as Section Chief at the VA La Jolla
  • Developing a clinical practice at UCSD
  • Performing head and neck surgery both at UCSD and VA
  • Overseeing clinic and OR schedules of staff surgeons and residents at VA
  • Working with VA leadership to carry out its clinical mission
  • Attending UCSD and VA tumor board
  • Developing a research program tailored to candidate's background
  • Teaching and supervising residents and medical students

    The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.

    As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.     Qualifications


    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    Candidates must have a MD or equivalent degree and be Board certified/eligible in Otolaryngology. Candidates must also have completed fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology or other sub-specialties of Otolaryngology.

    Candidates must have or be eligible for a California Medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

    Candidates must have a track record of publications.

    Preferred qualifications

    Candidates with experience with program leadership, program building and administration are preferred.

    Candidates active in practice of Head and Neck surgery are also preferred.
